Thank you for purchasing the UniFold Shelter System. The best value in fast shelter technology! Set-up and Knock-Down Videos are at www.unifold.net/videos
It is important to realize that this is not a tent. Therefore anything you know about setting up something that looks like a wall tent is obsolete.
We strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with these instructions before you try to set up the shelter.
Open the box. In it you will find:
- 1 tunnel folded flat
- 2 left (window) side end panels
- 2 right (door) side end panels
- 1 hardware box containing guy line, pegs some extra velcro and clips
Remove the end wall panels, unfold them so they are flat, and place them outside face down, flat on the ground.
Double check that all the captive clips are in place.
The sequence is:
- fold form the door end panels
- erect the tunnel
- install front door side end panel
- install front window side end panel
- install back door side end panel
- install back window end panel
- Anchor the shelter
- Fold form the door end panels one by one.
Lay the first door panel outside face down on the ground.
Then roll the center tri-fold post until it makes a triangular beam that is held in place by the long strip of velcro.
Then box the corners and tack them to hold in place with the velcro pads provided as well as the door sill beam. There is another tri-fold to make the threshold of the door.
- Erect the tunnel using 2 persons
Stand the tunnel assembly up so that the 'V' shape of the folded blue floor is inverted vertically. This will allow the floor to spread out it's accordion folded 'V' shape into a flat panel as the corners of the tunnel get pulled diagonally in opposite directions. It is important to pull the tunnel aggressively and in opposite diagonal directions at the same time. Grab the side walls from the points shown in the setup picture on the tunnel decal. This will both widen the shelter to its 10' dimension while lengthening it to its full length dimension.
The tunnel is fully erect only when the floor is totally flat. Ensure this by walking through the tunnel to allow your body weight to set the floor flat. Check that the roof folds are free of crimps. Remove crimps by pulling them out.
- Install the first door end wall
by laying the panel flat and pulling the whole panel into the floor puck retainers. With one person inside, and the other person outside, lift the door panel and insert the peak of the door panel into the peak of the shelter tunnel. To do this the person on the inside must hold the roof peak up from its natural sagging position. Fasten the door panel from the inside by aligning and turning the butterflies. In the meantime fasten from the outside by pressing the clips onto the tunnel.
- Install the first window end wall
by laying the window panel flat and pulling the whole panel into the floor puck retainers.
Fold the side flaps in the corners by tacking them in place with the velcro provided. The person inside will have to guide the flaps into the tunnel as the person outside gently lifts the window end panel into place. Once in place, turn the butterfly fasteners first, then push on the clips from the outside while the center flap is folded over the door panel tri-fold beam. Fasten the fold-over of the center beam from the top to the bottom by inserting and pushing the fold-over flap under the beam clips.
- Repeat step 3 at other end
- Repeat step 7 at other end
- Anchor the shelter
and strengthen the structure for snow load by pegging the front and back guys from the peak the roof to the ground so that there is slight tension along the peak of the roof.
Anchor the shelter from wind loads by pegging the side guys from the shoulder of the roof to the ground SO THAT THERE IS NO TENSION IN THE SIDE GUYS unless the side wall of the shelter is pushed on from the outside.
Congratulations!
You now have a strong and tough shelter ready to protect you and your things from the elements. Set it up two more times and you'll be able to set up the UniFold in 4 minutes provided you hurry. We find the average set-up time that doesn't break a sweat is 8 minutes.
